If you take it to close to the beginning of your training session then you won’t be able to make the most of its potential. In the first place, you’ll be wasting the formula as it will take effect when you’re already at the end of your workout. Then, you have all this energy that’s going to burn off at a fast rate and leave you feeling sluggish.

Should I Eat Something Before Taking The Pre-Workout Supplement?

Taking a pre-workout supplement will get you moving and make you feel more awake, focused, and energized. While you can’t avoid sore muscles as part of an intense workout, feeling fatigued throughout the next few days and not completely recover will call for the use of post-workout supplements. These formulas offer a good combination of amino acids plus vitamins and minerals to help you recover faster and more effectively. 

Are There Risks to Taking Pre-Workout Formulas?

 If you drink your pre-workout supplements in moderation or as what is recommended, you’re most likely good to go and won’t experience any health-threatening effects. 

However, as with all other drinks and food items, consuming these pre-workouts in excessively large amounts can cause certain symptoms.

Caffeine and creatine are both diuretics; that’s why manufacturers strongly recommend that you still drink ample amounts of water throughout the day to avoid dehydration. 

Drinking pre-workout supplements is worth it. You just have to always check the labels, read up on their ingredients and dosages, and consume these drinks in moderation.

  1. great site, i never knew there were so many pre workout supplements out there, i am currently trying to get into better shape as i speak. i have always very athletic and in great shape but i am now pushing 60. I had some back surgeries but seem fine now. What supplement would you recommend for someone my age to help me out. I do get to the gym now and then but use the tower 200 equipment from home a lot. Any help would be appreciated

      Having a good one will help you recover and allow your muscles to improve and get stronger. From experience, protein is a nutrient so many, people underdose on, yet it is the only nutrient that will directly help you improve and recover from your sessions.

      Don’t worry about a pre-workout shake at this stage, once you are able to train a bit more intensely from coming back from your surgery, then you might consider one.

      No problem at all. Pulse is a fantastic pre-workout. If you have a high tolerance to caffeine though, then there are other options with higher doses in them. Finding the best pre-workout can involve some trial and error, but I would recommend not using them on every session, or having a few weeks break away from them every now and then. This way you will always feel the effect of them.

  7. This is very helpful. I have tried several supplements of this type and discovered that I have a reaction to sweeteners, especially Aspartame. It gives me headaches and slows my brain down.
    I really like the “Vintage Blast” mix. It suits my style of steady, sustainable workouts.
    I do other sports and am interested in strength and not muscle mass without usefulness. I know many people just want a body beautiful, but that is not my style.
    I think it is important to know what you are putting into your body, so this article is very helpful.
    Would you recommend a post workout shake as well as the pre?

      I really happy you found my review article helpful.  With regards to taking a post workout shake,  I would 100% take one.  However, this can be taken anytime within an hour of training.  It will help restore used glycogen and feed the muscles the protein and amino acids they require to recover.  There have been studies done to show an improved rate of recovery by having a post workout shake with post carbohydrates and protein in.

  8. It really does take time to get into shape. I had a baby last December and I’ve been trying to get into shape ever since. I really did not know the importance of supplements and it’s good to know that caffeine helps…I love my 4 cups of caffeine a day.
