These are some of the BEST meal replacement shakes out there right now, as i read this article it got more interesting. For a person that is trying to loose weight while gain muscles which of these shakes would be the best to choose?  because these are so many choices in this one review all of them seems to offer great nutrients benefits. I previously used Slim fast original. I love the calories that it offers. but it offers much sugar which is not so good for someone trying to loose weight while trying to stay healthy. awesome. i will definitely save this page for some future recommendations.

      My top recommendation would be Huel.  It’s made from all natural ingredients and is incredibly low in sugar.  You are also getting a full spectrum of essential amino acids which are important when looking to build muscle.

  2. Thank you for this great review on the best meal replacement shakes. I really liked how you made it really easy to pick something to replace a standard meal.   I actually have not had a meal replacement shake ever (are there any people like me left in the world?) So it was nice to see what to look for when choosing a shake. One of the main reasons why I haven’t had a shake was that a lot of shakes have a high amount of added sugar so that they taste better (including Chocolate flavoured shakes). I think it’s great that Huen is vegan friendly. I know lots of people will definitely appreciate that. I think it’s nice that there are different shakes for different purposes such as Labrada Nutrition Lean Body High Protein for people who go to the gym and want a great body for summer. I was just wondering what your personal favourite is?

      My personal favorite is Huel.  Its made totally from real food and is crazily low and sugar with nothing bad added to try and help with the taste.  It also provides the body with all the essential amino acids, vitamins, minerals and healthy fats.  It can easily be used to replace multiple meals if needed as you do not have to worry that you might be putting in a load of processed ingredients.

      As you say, you have to be really careful as a lot of companies load them up with sugar or artificial sweeteners to get the flavour right.

      Huel is what I personally take.  Especially as their is a gluten free version as well.  Dealing with intolerance’s can be a pain sometimes but these days there is usually a product that can be suitable.

In relation to ‘how is the texture’ – I don’t like the chalky taste/texture of a lot of meal replacement shakes, but sometimes the flavors can help me get out of that. After reading your post, I need to take a big look at the sugar content of meal replacement shakes, as I never pay attention to that! I am leaning towards the RSP Truefit Lean, as the pros far outweigh the cons. Although there are only 20 servings per container, the health benefits are worth it. I can track what I have at a more moderate pace with smaller intake –  full meal intake. Great insight and great post!

      I’m really glad you found my article helpful.  RSP True Fit Lean is a great product.  It’s slightly lower in calories than a lot of the others so if you are on a strict calorie controlled diet than it can really help with that.  I also love the fact that it uses whey protein which is great for helping with recovery after training in the gym.

      Like you mention though there are only 20 servings per tub so it’s not something I would suggest having more than once a day unless you are prepared to buy a few tubs at once.

I appreciate how very detailed you’ve been about comparing these shakes.  I try to steer clear of whey protein, because it tends to not be a high quality source of protein and typically has soy.  In your experience, have you noticed a problem with using soy based protein?  I completely understand that shakes are a really easy way to grab a bunch of nutrients in a hurry, but I worry that I rely on them too much.  How often do you recommend using them as a replacement meal?

      When it comes to whey protein, they have moved on a long way now.  You can get some really high quality ones these days that wont contain any soy in them.  I personally don’t use soy based products as they cause me severe bloating.  

      In terms of how often you should take meal replacement shakes than that is totally up to you.  If you chose one that is high in quality than having it multiple times a day will not cause you any harm what so ever.  

      They are brilliant at helping people keep on track with their nutrition plans.  Me included in that.

      If however, you are trying to replace every meal with one, than this will get extremely boring very quickly.  Plus you will be missing out on the chewing part of eating food.  

      I personally have two shakes of Huel a day.  I also add in a banana,blueberries, strawberries and a scoop of whey protein to each one of these shakes.

    I enjoyed this article as I have been  looking to lose some weight.  I have tried different meal replacement shakes including some on the list.  The Garden of Life shake is definitely an acquired taste.

    I did not see the Atkins meal replacement shake on your list.  I used it to good effect years ago to lose weight, but I don’t know how it would be for someone who is trying to get into shape as well as losing weight.

      Atkins shakes are ones I looked at.  The main reason I didn’t include them was due to the extremely low calorie count per serving offered.  As I was looking at meal replacements and not just protein shakes in this article I felt that was a bit to low to replace a meal.  

      The Garden Of Life Shake, definitely has a unique taste to it.  It’s one that becomes more enjoyable the more you have it.
